The Paint
The original plan was to get it painted in late September or early October of 2015. Yeah, right! Off by only about a year. It is finally getting finished in September of 2016.
I painted the bottom of the boat myself using a roller, with multiple coats of Interprotect, followed by multiple coats of VC Performance Epoxy paint in white. Took a lot of work to get all the fiberglass pinholes filled and to get the keel just right. Then I painted the inside surfaces in white, and put a bilge enamel coating down in the inside bottom of the stern area where water may collect.
I wanted to paint the topside myself, but after a lot of research and consulting with the paint manufacturers, decided to hire someone to spray the top. Spraying requires special breathing apparatus with these paints, and takes experience to get it right with even coverage on a boat with all these sharp curves and angles.
The top will be done in a red, with white stripes down the middle and a white area on the sides near the stern for lettering. The paint is Interlux Perfection, in Rochelle Red and Snow White.
Here is the photoshopped paint concept, this is a photo of a white boat that we modified to check out the design:
Here are the first photos of the boat after it was painted red, before the white stripes and white areas are added.
